PASNAP Scholarship Winner
Announced
Congratulations to Ashley
D’Andrea of Jeffersonville, PA, the 2010 winner of the PASNAP Future
Nurse Scholarship.
This $1000 award was established in 2008 to
honor the memory of Richard Berritini, a
Certified School Nurse
for almost 15 years at Port Allegheny High
School, who lost his life serving for the National Guard in
Afghanistan.
Ashley was chosen from 25 applicants based on her
outstanding essay, academic performance, extracurricular
activities,
and recommendations.
In
her essay, Ashley wrote about her younger sister, who has multiple
health problems, and how helping to care
for her has influenced her
decision to pursue a career in nursing. She has been a counselor at
a Variety Club day
camp, working there with children with multiple
disabilities, and has also volunteered with the Cerebral Palsy
Association
of Philadelphia. At Lansdale Catholic High School,
Ashley has been involved with cheerleading, track, Student
Government,
Health Careers Club and Language Honors Society while
maintaining good grades and graduating in the top 1/3 of her class.
She is planning to attend the nursing program at East Stroudsburg
University.
PASNAP would like to also thank all of the applicants who took the
time to apply for this year’s scholarship.
It was not an easy task
to choose one out of the many fine candidates – the essays were
interesting and inspiring,
the academics were outstanding and the
recommendations showed that you have all been involved in varied
activities
that have led you to nursing. We look forward to
welcoming all of you into the nursing profession in the years to
come.
